What is Screen Mirroring?

screen mirroring

Screen mirroring is wireless technology. It allows you to convert from small to large screen. So that you can experience the media playing on small Android, Windows or Apple devices on better big screen.

This versatile device is a television or media projector. Which is often kept in the hall, media or living room of your house. Media have vast horizons including personal photos and slideshows, music, videos, games and movies that you can mirror. Apps like Internet, Netflix or YouTube also get mirrored.

In easy language, the content displayed on your computer, tablet or smartphone sends to an external screen via a screen mirroring cable or wireless connection.

When you mirror the display of a computer, tablet, or smartphone, the external screen offers a real-time replica as seen on your computer or mobile device.

Let’s understand by example …
If you launch an application, suppose you opened the mail or you edited a text file, the same would appear on the external big screen.
Suppose you are watching a movie or running a website, it will be visible to your audience. If you are giving a presentation somewhere, screen mirroring will help you deliver the PowerPoint presentation. Your audience will be able to watch your presentation on the external big screen.

What is Media Streaming?

Media streaming only delivers specific content to your computer, tablet, or smartphone via a wireless connection. It ships to a digital media player on an external device.

The best examples to understand are YouTube videos or Netflix TV shows. You play on your smart gadgets and then stream to your TV display.

After mirroring on TV, you can use any other app on your smart gadgets without any hindrance. Because you are not streaming from your gadgets. YouTube or Netflix’s server is streaming video through the Internet.

Difference Between Screen Mirroring and Streaming

You might have guessed from the content written above that what is the main difference between screen mirroring and media streaming. The main difference is in the way they share content. Screen mirroring itself shows that you mirror the contents of the source device on your display. You can also see whatever appears on the device on your display.
In media streaming, the display receives content through a digital media player. This technology does not mimic the content on your device’s screen. The user experiences screen mirroring and media streaming completely differently.
If you are primarily interested in watching videos and sharing them on an external display, there is no need to control. Digital media streamer takes full care of your needs. But if there is a problem then a solution can be achieved by sharing the screen in a meeting.

Compatibility Issues When You Mirror a Screen

At the time of mirror a screen you may face few compatibility issues –

There can be some problem when the two devices work together. TV or phone both support screen mirroring. It is important for both of you to have a rapport. You cannot see any phone on the TV screen or force the phone to connect to the TV and work on it.

It is important to be clear here, whether it is necessary to be one of the manufacturers of both types of equipment for screen mirroring? I would say that it is important to have one.
For example, you can comfortably share content on Amazon’s Fire TV from the Kindle Fire tablet. The manufacturer of both devices is Amazon and Fire devices use the Android operating system, so many Android-based phones and tablets can be compatible.

In this way, you can mirror content from iPhone to Apple TV. The manufacturer of both devices is compatible with each other as being one. iPads are compatible with Apple TV.
You cannot stream media from Android or Windows devices on an Apple TV. Note here that Apple does not provide a good media mirroring experience with others.

Similarly, Google’s Chrome Cast and Roku media devices also have limitations, as is usually the case with smart TVs, so if you’re in the market for a mirroring solution, keep in mind that you only buy the right equipment before streaming.

How Screen Mirroring Works

In the first place, Screen mirroring requires two main and important components: a screen sending device and a screen receiving device.

Secondly, The screen-mirroring protocol is used by the screen-sending device. By the way, there are many screen-mirroring protocols. In which Apple AirPlay and Google Cast are at the top, are used on iPhones and Chromebooks respectively.

A receiver plays an important role in screen mirroring. The receiver targets the media you want to display. Now, you can call the hardware receiver like Apple TV, Chromecast etc. Now it is the turn of the reflector which is a software application. It is present in a Mac or Windows computer, giving the receiver a strength.

There are several ways to establish a screen-mirroring connection. Connection is done on the basis of devices. The devices are equipped with screen-mirroring technologies (such as Airplay and Google Cast). Therefore, do not always show the same compatibility.
Example to understand
Miracasts are connected to Windows devices while Apple devices use Airplay. It now prevents Windows devices from connecting to Apple TV wirelessly. There are constraints that deploy and use multiple device types.
The good thing is that third-party cross-platform screen-mirroring is a solution to tackle such a problem.

How to Mirror an Android device on your TV

It is easy to show your Android phone screen on the TV screen using a Chrome Cast-compatible device

The screen mirroring that Google produced is recognized as Google Casting. Android starts with Android 4.4.2. So it is important that your current Android device should have all the castings and be ready to work.

In addition to Android devices, Google Home Hub such as Chrome cast may require compatible TVs or other compatible display devices.

  • Connect Android system to Wi-Fi network with the same Chrome cast or TV.
  • Download and run Google Home App
  • Just Open Google Home app then go to Menu select Cast Screen/audio.
  • Click your Chrome cast or TV and it’s ready to enjoy.

However, a major limitation of Chrome Cast is the need for an active Internet connection.

But when the contents of the computer screen have to be reflected, an active Internet connection becomes important. Google Chrome cast is essentially a media streaming device that takes content from the Internet that streams to a TV display. There is a need to install chrome browser on the presentation device to use screen mirroring.

Technically using a Google Chrome cast, the screen can mirror a TV display. But remember that the Chrome browser must be open on the presentation device and an Internet connection will be required. This proves useful as a screen mirroring device to Google chrome cast. In many situations, they may also ban screen mirroring.

Using Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter as a screen mirroring device

It is quite easy to use Microsoft wireless display adapter. Plug USB and HDMI into the wireless display adapter into the TV display. Connect the presentation device to the adapter’s peer-to-peer WiFi network and mirror the screen. The wireless display adapter uses Miracast technology, and lets the entire content of a computer, tablet, or smartphone screen be shared on a TV display.

The Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter uses Miracast technology, so this screen mirroring device is also limited to presentation devices that are compatible with the Miracast standard.

This included New types of Microsoft and Android devices. However, the entire family of Apple products remains. And such as Apple TV or Google Chrome cast, with HDMI output from a digital camera or any other device also helps control screen mirroring.

Conclusion

At last, Apple TV, Google Google Chrome cast, Windows Wireless Display Adapters provide screen mirroring according to their capacity. Most are easy to use, but usage is limited to only specific devices requiring Internet access. This limitation makes it less suitable for screen mirroring and collaboration in business environments. But for streaming video or sharing photos on your large TV screen at home are a good option.
